MANILA, Philippines - A hospital faces an investigation for allegedly refusing to treat an emergency case involving an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who bled shortly after arriving in the country.

Radio dwIZ reported early Friday that labor secretary Marianito Roque will formally request an explanation from the Manila Sanitarium for the case involving OFW Noraiza Bansil, 47.

The report said Bansil was suffering from bleeding when she arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 aboard a Saudia flight.

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) personnel rushed her to the Manila Sanitarium, but the Sanitarium allegedly refused to treat her.

This forced the OWWA personnel to bring Bansil to the Manila Doctors Hospital for treatment.

But a separate report by dzBB radio's Louie Garcia said the Manila Sanitarium claimed it did not have the facilities to treat Bansil, who was six months pregnant.

The dzBB report said OWWA Officer I Josie Damaso said Bansil already had difficulty disembarking from the plane.

* I've heard some incident that some hospitals won't entertain or admit a patient even if that patient is already in critical condition. They want to know first if the patient have insurance or of if the patient can pay for the bills. It's sad because instead of helping those people in need, they are more likely trying to kill them for not helping. Every second counts if the patient is severely suffering. I just hope that if some hospitals won’t be able to admit a certain patient, it’s really because they don’t have the proper equipment and not because they have to verify if one can pay or not. *
