Toledo City is a 2nd class city in the province of Cebu, Philippines. Formerly known as Pueblo Hinulawan in 1861, it became a City in January 6, 1961 largly due to the Atlas Mining and Development Corporation in Don Andres Soriano.

 

 

 

Shrine of Saint Pedro Calungsod

Following the canonization of Visayan teen martyr Pedro Calungsod on 21 October 2012, the hilltop parish of barangay Cantabaco became the first shrine and church named after the second Filipino saint.

 

 

 

 

Founders of Hinulawan

Toledo City came from Old Hinulawan and New Hinulawan.

Old Hinulawan, presently called Daanglungsod, was founded by Mariano Libre, Fulgencio Lebumfacil, Areston Macapaz, Adriano Blanco, and Tranquilino Blanco.

New Hinulawan, presently called Toledo (on the present site), was founded by Fermin Poloyapoy, Máximo Macapobre, Jacinto López, Jestoni P. Estrada,Servando de Jesus, Juan Libre, Agapito Nieves, Francisco Blanco, and Francisco Rodriguez.

Carmen Copper Corporation (CCC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corporation (Atlas). CCC has an operating agreement with Atlas and it has exclusive operating rights over the in situ mineral resources and ore reserves of Carmen, Lutopan and Biga mineral deposits, collectively known as Toledo Copper Mine Complex covering 1, 674 hectares. This is part of the Atlas mineral property covering 5,218 hectares, consisting of 3,284.48 hectares Atlas-owned mining claims and 1, 934 hectares of mining claims belonging to claim-owners who have valid operating agreements with Atlas. CCC restarted the Toledo mining operation in September 2007.
