[KGIC 빅토리아]#29. Reading/Writting 수업

본문
나의 Reading/Writing level은 4이다.
Google Before you date
Terry pushes the door to her sanctuary : the small coffee shop on the corner of 12th and Brich.
She Can't wait to inside. She waves to her two friends, Reena and Simone, who are already sitting at
their regular table in the bank, and orders a caramel macchiato with extra caramel and an extra shot of
espresso. On a day like today, she needs the added sugar and caffeine.
- sanctuary : safety and protection, especially for people who are being chased ir attacked can
stay and be protected.
Coffee in hand, Terry walks over to her friends and sits down, spilling a bit of coffee on her sleeve.
Reena and Simone exchange glances.
"so?" Reena asks. "Tell us all about it."
"it was a Disater!" Terry declares.
"Oh, come on! it couldn't have been that bad," says Simone. " It couldn't have been worse than last
month. Remember Tom, that loser whon spilt red wine on your dress and said it looked better that way?"
"Yes, Simon. Thanks for reminding me," Terry replies with a frown. "I had almost forgotten about
that, But if you can believe it, last night was about ten times worse!"
- Disater : an unexpected event, such as a very bad accident, a flood or a fire, that kills
a lot of people or causes a lot of damage
"Oh, God," groans Reena. "What happened?"
Terry sighs, takes a sip of her coffee, and begins her sad story.
"Well, the date started off okay. I mean, he seemed normal. He has a good job--he's a chiropractor.
We went to tht same high school, except he's five years older, so I didn't know him then. Actually, he's
my high school friend Laura's best frined. It turns out we know many of the same people. So, it seemed
like a good basis for a relationship."
- groan : to make a long deep sound because you are annoyed, upset or in pain, or with pleasure
- sip : To drink somthing, taking a very small amount each time
- chiropractor : a person whose job invloves treating some diseases and physical problems
by pressing and moving the bones in a person's spine or joints
- turn out : to be discovered to be; to prove to be
"Good on paper, you mean," Reensa says.
"Exactly. Good on paper. How many times have I fallen for that? Anyways, he was good on paper, and
for the first 20 minutes of our date, he was good in person, too. Then, things started to get weird
"Don't tell me! blurts out Simone. "He belongs to a religious cult and he tried to brainwash you!"
"Um, no," says Terry. "But it's alomst as weird as that. We were at the restaurnt and we had just ordered
dinner. He asked me what my hobbies were and I was telling him about my book club and my salsa class.
He was a great listener and seemed really interested in me, which is always good. Then, I asked him what
his hobbies were."
- blurt : to say something suddenly and without thinking carefully enough
Terry pauses to take a long swig of her coffee. Reena and Simone look impatient.
"And?" Reena asks. "What was his weird hobby? Oh, I hope it wasn't something really gross."
"Sorry to disappoint you, Reena, but it WAS something really gross.
- swig : to take a quick of something, especially alcohol
